Book Legacy has recently started creating and selling Bookish Subscription Boxes, so I wanted to have a quick chat with Book Legacy to see what goes into creating an adventure like this! Check out the interview here! (I also recently reviewed one of the boxes!)
What made you want to start creating bookish boxes?
I’m not 100% sure, all I remember was that I was looking for a new box to subscribe to. Once I started looking, I realised that there are not that many in the UK, and international shipping is so expensive! When I started looking into the UK based boxes I noticed that they all support the “big bookish company”. I have always loved the “big company” within the bookish community, but I also adore the small ones that never get enough appreciation for what they do within the community of book lovers.
That’s when the idea started to grow about making my own box company that may not get a lot of items within a box, but I would be supporting all the small bookish shops worldwide! Then it all kind of went a bit wild as I had all these ideas swirling around in my head and I was making everyone in my family crazy by telling them all my different ideas! It was on that day that I told my best friend about my idea and she got so excited for me and said “OMG. What are you waiting for go and do it! You have all these amazing ideas for a new small business subscription box why not just go and do it. What’s the worst that can happen?” So, she created my logo and everything just came together and here I am!
What has been the most challenging part?
I think the most challenging part of this whole adventure was trying to get my first box ready because I wasn’t sure what to include! Also I am on a very tight budget as all my suppliers are small business they cannot give a low price for the wholesale items so there is not as many items within the boxes, so I was worried that maybe people would not like the boxes or the items.
What has been the most rewarding part?
I think the most rewarding part of this whole adventure has been that I have grown as a person. Not only that, but to know that there are people out there who like the boxes that I am providing feels great. However, the most rewarding of it all has to be when I chose my rep and when she got her first box she was so excited and that made me happy to know that I have brightened up someones day!
What exciting themes do you have coming next?
My next theme is ‘Death and Destruction’. This theme is for May. Because we’re not going to be doing an April box, we have decided to do a big May box which will be £35 but it will have lots more goodies in it from a book sleeve to a vinyl sticker and lots more exciting goodies! It will have a signed bookplate as well as a letter from the author! I have to say that this is the box that I’m most excited about!!
What are favourite books to read?
I love to read lots of different types of books, from YA to crime and lots of others, but my all-time favourite books to read are The Selection series! I also love the Chicagoland vampire series and the Vampire Academy series and finally any book by Sarah J Maas! She is an incredible writer and I have loved everything that she has written so far.
Do you belong to any fandoms? Can we expect to see them creep into the boxes?
Currently I belong to a couple of fandoms: Shadowhunters, Harry potter, Shatter Me, ACOMAF. You will defiantly be seeing those creeping into some of the boxes and I hope you like everything that I’ll be putting into the boxes.
Do you only sell subscription boxes?
Currently, we only sell book boxes. But in April (when we close for a couple of weeks) we will be adding bookmarks, prints, postcards and new and existing items to our store.
I’d like to say a massive thank you to Book Legacy for agreeing to do this interview with me!
