You may recognise the name of Forget Me Not’s author – Claire Allan – because she has written a guest post for me before! If you want to know some of the ups and downs that come with being a writer, then go check that out! I’ve also reviewed Apple Of My Eye too!
But for now let’s talk about Forget Me Not.
Forget Me Not is Claire Allan’s latest book and it gets going straight out of the gate! Here’s how!
Elizabeth is out walking her dog, minding her own business, and suddenly comes across a severely brutalised young woman called Clare who is literally clinging to life at the side of the road. Elizabeth is a good citizen and calls the emergency services and tries to keep Clare alive but to no avail. Clare’s injuries are just too severe. But Clare managed to utter 2 final words before the life left her body: Warn them.
See, I told you it gets up to speed quickly!
It turns out that Clare’s friends, Rachel and Julie, are now fearing for their lives as there is clearly a maniac on the loose. Queue the police who much find the attacker before they strike again.
Both Rachel and Julie feel the loss of Clare quite intensely, but they both deal with it pretty differently which leads them to the first clue…a bouquet of forget-me-not’s tied with black ribbon and paired with a disturbing message…
I enjoyed Forget Me Not and read it in just a couple of days, and whilst I’m still planning on reading Claire Allan’s future work, I liked Forget Me Not but I just couldn’t love it.
Claire Allan has a very accessible writing style that makes her work very easy to read despite the subject matter, and the pace is fast and engaging throughout. But I can’t write this review without mentioning that prologue – it was so confusing and wasn’t needed at all. There were also quite a lot of details being repeated throughout Forget Me Not – it felt less like subtly trying to keep facts in the back of your mind and more like filler at times.
There are plenty of twists and turns in Forget Me Not but unfortunately I saw a lot of them coming. Maybe I’m a super sleuth and go into policing; maybe the plot and twists weren’t 100% there – either way I figured it out. But it didn’t take away from my enjoyment, but I’m just letting ya know – if I figured it out, you might too.
The characters were all fleshed out and realised – if not likable. I honestly wasn’t too bothered about their fates for the most part. I also don’t like the romantic focus either – but that’s my personal taste, others will love it and appreciate the reprieve from the crime elements.
All in all, Forget Me Not is not the most ground-breaking, heart-wrenching, gory or sleuth-filled crime book out there, but it is enjoyable and fans of both Claire Allen and crime fiction won’t be disappointed.

I disappeared on a Tuesday afternoon. I was there one minute and the next I was gone. They’ve never found my body…
It’s six in the morning during the hottest summer on record when Elizabeth O’Loughlin, out walking her dog, comes across Clare, a victim of a horrific knife attack, clinging onto life at the side of the road.
Clare dies minutes later, but not before whispering her haunting last words to Elizabeth.
When it becomes clear that Clare’s killer has more than one murder on his mind, Elizabeth has to take drastic action or face losing everything.
But what if she can’t stop a killer determined never to be forgotten?
