Cover Redesigns – To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

It’s time for another cover redesign! I don’t know if I should be calling these ‘fan covers’ or not – because I’m not a fan of all of the books I redesign. I recently had a ‘friend’ ask me to redesign the Twilight cover – despite knowing I would hate it (she’s an awesome friend) and I did – and I hated the process and the end result. So I won’t be sharing that any time soon! BUT I am 100% a fan of my latest redesign!

I decided to take on To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han. I’m not the BIGGEST fan of photos on cover, but I have to admit that I really like these covers. And I ADORE the books!

So this was a difficult challenge for me – but I’m pretty pleased with the result if I do say so myself!

(BTW, if you wanna see the ‘rules’ of why I do this and all the statements of how I don’t think I’m any better than anyone and I’m not a designer, I do this for fun blah, blah, blah, then check out any of my other earlier redesigns!)

So, let’s get on to my redesigns!

I got a little bit of creative block here. I knew that I wanted to do something with cakes and letters – letters because…duh, and cakes because Lara-Jean bakes a lot. I created 3 covers again. 1 I didn’t like, 1 was meh for me and the other one I really liked. But, as always, I put it to a vote on Instagram.

Why did I choose this cover?: To All The Boys I Loved Before is a book that really surprised me. I didn’t expect to like it – but I did! So I wanted to try it out, plus, I’m not the biggest fan of photos of people on covers.

Did I have an idea going in to it?: Yep, I wanted baked goods and letters. Also, I kinda wanted to keep similar fonts to the original.

Did I like the book?: Yes, I loved this book. Way more than I thought I would, and the whole trilogy is so charming!

Are you happy with it?: 1 of them, yeah. I’m quite proud of it.

Here’s the original cover:

And here are my three designs!

And the results of the Instagram poll showed that the PINK cover was the winner of those three. Which I’m overjoyed with because it’s my favourite of the three designs I did!

And here are the results of mine vs original!

I’m not surprised that most people preferred the orignal cover – it’s kind of a classic by now! But I am overwhelmed with how many people preferred my cover! I’m completelyhumbled and motivated!

I’m a happy girl!

As always, Im going to keep on doing this because I have a great time doing it. I have NO idea what is going to come next! But if you wanna hang around to find out that’d be great! Or you can suggest a book cover below!

(By the way – I did an interview with Micaela Alcaino – a real book designer! So go check that out too!)
