This post is all about the Fates & Fortunes Readathon. Here you’ll find more information about it, the rules, the prompts, the FAQ and, of course, the prize!
So, what is a readathon? A readathon is a reading challenge that is designed to help you read more books than you usually would within a set time period. They are also often themed.
I’ve never taken part in a readathon, so I thought what better way to try my first one than to create my own! So I’ve created the Fates & Fortunes Readathon!
The Fates & Fortunes Readathon is a month long readathon in 2 parts and is based around the 22 cards of the Major Arcana of the tarot deck! Part 1 will begin August 1st until August 31st and Part 2 will begin October 1st and end on October 31st!
There is also a Discord server that you can join to discuss the prompts and suitable books for them if you need inspiration!
Part 1 will utilise the first 11 cards of the Major Arcana and Part 2 will utilise the remaining 11. There will be a chance to win a prize for each part!
(I’ve also explained the readathon and given my TBR in a video if you’d rather watch! If not, just scroll on down!)
Ok, so each part has 11 prompts and the aim is to get through as many prompts in each part as you can! Choose your prompts in any order you like, then pick a book that aligns with the themes associated with your chosen card!
Upright or reversed? You choose! You can move from upright to reversed between prompts as much as you like!
Let’s talk about the prompts for Part 1!
Each of the 11 cards is a prompt. Try to get through as many as you can!

My chosen books for each prompt
So, each card is a prompt, and you can choose to use either the upright or the reversed meanings of the cards for each prompt, and then pick a book that has themes that match the meanings!
This will give you a large scope and range to pick books for this readathon!
To help illustrate this and give you an idea, here is my TBR for the prompts of part 1! I’ve put the themes that I’m associating with my chosen book in bold so that you can see!

Let’s answer some questions!
I’ve put some FAQ’s together that you might find helpful:
DO I NEED TO SIGN UP ANYWHERE?
Nope – simply join in and use the prompts to guide you in your choices!
There’s a Discord server dedicated to the readathon and each of the prompts, so join us there if you want to! Please feel free to spread the word, your progress and your thoughts on your social media platforms!
ARE RE-READS ALLOWED?
CAN I USE A BOOK THAT I’VE ALREADY STARTED PRIOR TO THE READATHON?
Only books chosen specifically for the prompts, and read during the timeframe of the readthon will count towards the readathon goal.
CAN I READ ONE BOOK FOR MULTIPLE PROMPTS?
Each prompt needs its own book, so unfortunately you can’t use one book to fulfil multiple prompts.
DO AUDIOBOOKS COUNT?
Absolutely! Any book format counts – physical books, e-books, audio books, braille books and more. It all counts. Graphic novels also count!
IS THERE A PRIZE?
Yes! There will be a £20 gift card giveaway (for Book Depository). Anyone who takes part in the readathon is eligible to enter, regardless of how many prompts you managed (minimum 1). There will be a Google form closer to the time for entries. The form will remain open 24 hours after the end of the readathon and the winner will be chosen at random. It all counts. Graphic novels also count!
I STILL HAVE A QUESTION – WHO DO I CONTACT?
The Fates & Fortunes Readathon is run by me. You can contact me here or by any method below:
A little more info on the giveaway:
Anyone who takes part in the Fates & Fortunes Readathon is eligible to enter, regardless of how many prompts you managed (although there is a minimum of finishing 1 book per part to be eligible).
If you take part in both Part 1 and Part 2 you can enter both giveaways! Closer to the time of the end of the parts I will release a Google form for entries to the giveaway. The forms will remain open 24 hours after the end of the readathon parts.
The winner will be chosen at random. So it’s NOT based on how many books you read!
- Must be subscribed/following me (Dark Heart Books) on at least 1 of the following: YouTube (youtube.com/darkheartbooks) or Instagram (@darkheartbooks) – preferably both but it’s not a requirement, only 1 is!
- Must be 18 years or older, or have a parent’s permission, to enter.
- Must be willing to share your email/contact info so I can transfer the prize.
- You must finish a minimum of 1 of the prompts, during the timeframe of the readathon, per Part
- You can enter the giveaway for both Parts as long as you complete a minimum of one prompt per Part.
- Entries are via the Google form only. The form will be sent via the Discord servers (or I can send the link to the form via another method if needed, please contact me if the Discord link isn’t suitable for you.)
And that’s it!
I hope you’re as excited to take part in this Readathon as I am! There’s exactly 1 month to prepare before it officially starts on August 1st!
I hope to see you there! Happy reading!
